According to a Sudan-based human rights organization, a drone strike carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the Darfur region on Sunday (August 2) killed at least 35 people.
The strike targeted a family court in North Darfur and marks the latest act of violence in the ongoing civil war between the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
“Emergency Lawyers,” an independent Sudanese human rights group, stated: “This attack comes amidst ongoing military operations in North Darfur, with a rising number of incidents involving drone strikes on various areas and civilian gatherings.”
El Hadi Idris Yahya, the governor of the Darfur region appointed by the RSF, condemned this “heinous crime” in a post on X, declaring that “the perpetrators of these crimes will not escape and will certainly be held accountable.”
